When using the Internet, every single second our computer is exposed to danger of attacks. And the aggressors are not only hackers (there are relatively few of them), but also all companies dealing with online marketing, colleting data about Internet users, etc. In order to protect ourselves against them and control how visible we are on the Internet, we need a special program, such as PeerBlock.
Based on the open source technology, PeerBlock is a successor of Peer Guardian 2, created in order to solve problems with opening it on the Windows Vista and Windows 7 platforms. As the name suggests, the application blocks the incoming connections from other computers. This is done on the basis of IP addresses to be blocked (a billion addresses altogether) downloaded from the PeerBlock server the moment it is opened for the very first time. The user themselves defines the address categories to be blocked. Of course, it is also possible to create our own list of addresses.
The program is very efficient and works much better than the majority of commercial programs offering similar options. At the same time it does not strain the computer’s memory and does not require the user’s interference. It often happens that after installing it on computer, the user forgets it is there, which proves that it can work without any problems and is virtually imperceptible.
Its interface is well-designed and automated. Before opening for the first time, the program’s creator is activated and asks the user to set the preferences. To sum up, it is a powerful and efficient program - which is exactly all we need if we want to feel secure when browsing the Internet.
