How can we describe a typical Windows Notepad? Useless, unimportant, ignored. This is because of its limited options and inability to recognize anything else other than simple text. Fortunately, however, there are substitutes available on the market, for instance AkelPad.
This program has been designed to combine speed, small size, and efficiency. It is a text editor being a substitute for the Window Notepad. The program involves additional options of editing text in a single or in multiple windows, displaying symbols of all systems based on Unicode, and any other encoding systems installed on computer. It also displays symbols used in the formats of Unix and Mac systems. Besides, the user has got access to program preview and can browse graphic images included in the opened files or mark the columns the text. Unlike a common notepad, AkelPad offers the option of undoing edition and fast searching and modifying the text fragments. The program’s functions can be further developed after installing appropriate plug-ins which may, for instance, automatically mark fragments of the program’s code, complete the word fragments, automate keyboard functions and much more.
Its interface is strikingly similar to that of Notepad which is hardy surprising since the program can be installed as a default editor, being a substitute for the Windows Notepad or for Total Commander. Unfortunately, however, there isn’t a Polish version of the program during default installation so it stands out among other system programs when installed as a substitute. Nevertheless, this does not change the fact that it is still much better than the Windows Notepad.
