You are managing thousands of documents. And it doesn’t matter whether you do it in the office, a non-profit organization or because of your hobby. You have several thousand documents on your hard disk, from text files, to spreadsheets, to Word documents. How to deal with it all? It’s simple: try DocFetcher.
It is an open source program (having the GPL license) which is an independent tool that indexes and searches the documents saved on the hard disk. The program offers two main working modes: creating permanent indexes for folders containing a large number of documents which do not change; and creating temporary indexes for some smaller folders. In both cases the program creates an index by scanning the entire documents (with the speed of 3-4 documents per second), then making them accessible to the user. After writing the appropriate word in the browser, the program displays all the documents conforming to the searching requirements. Of course, this is not the only option it offers. DocFetcher can also automatically update indexes in the background, be installed as a portable application on USB flash drives, together with the encoded archives. The program also recognizes the saved html websites and can search files containing source codes saved on the hard disk. Apart from that, it also offers the options of sorting, copying, deleting, etc., i.e. all what we expect from a file manager.
Its interface is very comfortable and simple to operate (which is typical of any open source program) and does not put a strain on the computer’s memory or disk space. It is simply an excellent program, one of the best in its category.
