Mind maps constitute one of the most popular and most powerful tools to support learning, working and managing. Bookvar is a freeware application created for working in the .NET environment and designed by a Bulgarian company called Avaxo Ltd.

This program is a very useful tool for creating mind maps and adjusting them to our own needs and requirements. The program is addressed to the present generation of computer users (with Web 2.0 services), and, apart from the reliable function of creating mind maps, it also offers a wide range of other options. The application enables several users to work on one mind map, requiring only a connection between individual computers. Thanks to its integration with Windows Live services, it is possible to publish mind maps by means of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server. The program supports the majority of the modern audio and video formats, enabling us to drag and drop multimedia files and links to any place within the program’s window.

The program’s interface was designed with esthetics and ergonomics in mind. This has been achieved at the cost of its functions because unlike its competitive programs, Bookvar forces us to click a lot before we can find the options we need. However, although irritating, it does not really disturb the work and we can easily get used to it. Besides, the program’s functions can be developed by means of appropriate plug-ins.
