3D modeling is a challenge for everyone. Professional programs for creating 3D graphics are quite complicated and often expensive. Fortunately, however, there are free alternatives allowing the user to take up 3D graphics. Such an alternative program is, for instance, 3DVIA Shape published by Dassault Systemes.
This French program is a freeware application whose main aim is to enable then user to create 3D models in the most simple and at the same time most versatile way. Its options are similar to those of Google SketchUp. However, the solutions it involves are different. One of the options it has (although it is more a gadget rather than a useful function) is the possibility of previewing the model in the anaglyph mode, which is 3D, by means of 3D glasses with blue and red lenses. Another, and much more useful option is using touch screen (only in Windows 7), that is modeling by touching the computer screen with your fingers. Apart from that, Shape offers typical functions such as displaying the model’s axis, print screens or modeling without the Internet connection.
Its interface is user-friendly and makes working with the program enjoyable. It is an excellent tool for checking your skills in 3D modeling, regardless of your age or experience. However, we have to remember that the application is still more like a toy than a serious modeling tool.
