Logisim is an educational tool created by Dr. Carl Burch from the Hendrix College. Its main aim is to enable students of technical faculties around the world to design and simulate digital logic circuits. The program is based on the Open Source technology and holds the GNU Public License.
It is a multiplatform program, based on the Java language. It provides the users with virtually unlimited opportunities regarding the design and simulation of circuits, from the very basic ones to the whole virtual processors. The whole process is based on an intuitive system of drawing wires that connect the individual elements. Every single wire may be marked with an different color, thus facilitating orientation and enabling fast debugging. The program automatically connects the circuit elements, thus making the process fast and efficient. It has also got a wide range of components to be used when designing a circuit, including some ready-made elements, gates, RAM, etc. The completed project can be simulated or exported to a .gif file or printed.
The program has got a simple and intuitive interface. As an educational tool it provides great assistance but is not only addressed to students. Also experienced professionals are bound to appreciate its huge potential and versatility. All you need to have to use it is Java 5 environment.
