Command & Conquer 1.22

Which fan of strategy games has not heard of the Command & Conquer series? This legendary name appeared in 1995 with its first part simply called Command & Conquer, less frequently Tiberian Dawn. This program for years defined the term RTS (Real Time Strategy). In 2007 the game was made available as freeware.

C&C allows the player to choose the side of the conflict they want to fight for. It could be either GDI (Global Defense Initiative, part of the UN) or the Brotherhood of Nod – an ancient organization centered around mysterious Kane, considered to be a prophet. The gameplay is relatively simple as for the standards of 2011, but the construction of scripts in single player campaigns, balanced potential of units belonging to individual fractions in the multiplayer mode  have made the game really challenging. It proves to be a real challenge in a campaign where the player is supposed to beat the enemy with really poor forces. It is all embellished with video clips and although they are slightly old-fashioned (they come from 1995) and do not necessarily involve only professional actors, they let the players feel the atmosphere of the conflict sweeping through the world.

The interface is simple and requires only the use of mouse but some keyboard shortcuts can also be helpful. A great advantage is that the available version comes from The First Decade compilation and works with the latest operating systems.
