What is Launchy? It’s a freeware, open source program which facilitates using the Start menu and all the programs installed by means of indexing them and providing quick access to each application.
How does it work? The user chooses the option of Scan Catalog: Launchy may, for instance, index only the content of Start menu, or also the whole disks and the programs installed there. In this way the application creates a program index for the programs installed on the user’s hard disk and by means of a quick browser opened by Alt + Space shortcut, provides the user with access to each of them. This is a very comfortable tool and, frankly, can be quite addictive, too. However, its functions are not only limited to programs. Launchy also works with documents, website shortcuts, folders, etc. The only limitation is defined by the user’s imagination because Launchy also makes it possible to cerate the list of extensions it is supposed to look for when scanning: it may only look for .ink files, or for .exe, .bat, etc. files as well.
Its interface is very comfortable to use: the browser is based on a single text field and a quick search on the basis of the index created. The options are well-structured and organized in several tabs. Caution: Using Launchy is highly addictive!
