XCALC is a fully-functional calculator offering a large number of options, including the possibility of adjusting its looks and functions to the user’s needs. It has been created by Bernt Ribbum.
In short, it is a reliable and versatile calculator. It allows us to do some basic mathematical calculations like adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing or extracting roots, but also calculating trigonometric and logarithmic functions or zero of a function, with the additional possibility of displaying the results in the decimal, hexadecimal, octal or zero-one form. At the same time the application is very easy to adjust to the user’s requirements: thanks to its extended option menu it allows the users to transform it into either a common, fast calculator in a system tray or a powerful scientific calculator floating above the open windows and accessible from any place on the desktop. The possibilities it offers are limited only by the user’s creativity and their requirements.
Its interface is transparent and user-friendly. However, it has got a certain shortcoming, namely all markings have the form of acronyms and this may be problematic for some people. The colors used may also pose a problem: the default option is gaudy blue which, fortunately, can be changed. However, apart from these shortcoming, the program is really useful.
