3D modeling is a very challenging task. Not everyone has got a spatial imagination and even those who do have it are often unable to master the complex interface of programs intended for 3D graphics. Wings is an open source application used for creating 3D models. The program is easy to use and based on a simple but versatile interface.
The interface is designed in such a way so that the majority of options are available by means of the context menu under the right mouse button. The commands change according to the elements chosen and every single option comes with a tip displayed on the command line at the bottom of the screen. Almost all of them allow us to modify, to a greater or lesser degree, the 3D model currently being created.
The tools provided can be divided into basic and advanced. The former include moving, rotating, scaling the object, stretching, combining, dividing the individual surfaces. The advanced functions offer the possibilities of precise modeling but they require some specialist knowledge.
However, the most important thing is that the program is small and user-friendly and it doesn’t take much time to find out about all the options. Although the program does not offer the function of creating animations, it is still an excellent tool for learning 3D modeling. Even the more advanced graphic designers are bound to appreciate the simplicity of its interface as well as the program’s properties.
