Popular formats used for comic books available online (such as CBR or CBZ) are, unfortunately, incompatible with the majority of browsers. Therefore, we need a separate program for browsing comic strips so that it can be enjoyable instead of being an ordeal of opening and unpacking files. This is what Jomic offers.
It is a Java-based program for opening and browsing archives in the most popular formats such as CBZ, CBR and PDF. This may seem unimpressive but it also offers some unique functions. Apart from the fully functional option of two-page browsing (just like in a normal comic book) which is often faulty in other programs or doesn’t work at all, it also offers the option of copying images and converting them to a range of graphic formats (PNG, JFIF/JPEG, TIFF, and GIF), as well as the possibility of collective conversion of multiple files and their standardization in CBZ or PDF. Also, there is an extensive system of problem management which identifies and eliminates problems that we may encounter.
The program’s interface is comfortable although it is not free from drawbacks. It is controlled by means of keyboard and this requires some practice. However, the options are logically structured in the interface so it doesn’t take much time to master it. The program offers high compatibility and it may be opened on any computer supporting the Java environment.
